Beetham All In One Child Development Centre

Couva Children’s Home and Crisis Nursery

Wayne Patrick Jordan was the dynamic young man who moved his school for poor, underprivileged children from a 12’ x 12’ galvanize shed in the bowels of the Beetham (Trinidad), into an abandoned concrete structure nearby.

The All in One Child Development Centre was started by Wayne in the 1980’s to provide an opportunity for underprivileged children, aged four to sixteen who for various reasons could not attend mainstream schools, to receive an education.

In 2000, the Centre was little more than a shack, but Mr. Jordan was achieving a lot with the children, and WAND decided to raise funds to assist in upgrading the Centre. To this sub-structure, WAND added electricity to the building, a suspended ceiling, a finished concrete floor, bathroom facilities, part furnishings and part library at a cost of TT$ 35,200.

The funding was given by the UK High Commission and other organizations provided paint and other building materials to repair the premises.

WAND was honored to have HRH Prince Charles visit the Centre on his official trip to Trinidad & Tobago in February 2000.

Wayne Patrick Jordan, on recommendation from WAND has since received a National Award, The Medal of Merit.

The Centre continues to provide a wonderful opportunity for the children of Beetham today.
